Definition - Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD)
IEDD is a specific term that describes the searching for, locating, identification and render safe of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) of criminal and terrorist origin. Devices may contain explosives or have chemical or biological agent fillings. Such devices may be constructed with the intent to harass, injure or kill personnel, damage property or cause disruption.

Threat assessment - IED Risk Management

Threat assessment from criminal and terrorist bombs is the primary step towards the development of solutions that defeat or mitigate that threat. Whether the perceived danger is from terrorists or criminals, this initial threat assessment provides the key to IED risk management.

IEDD Organization - Strategic and tactical planning

The requirements of an IEDD organization must be based upon a detailed threat assessment. Applying this base data the operational requirements of an EOD organization can be justified, designed and developed to defeat or mitigate the IEDD threat. Operational requirements include defining the structuring of an IEDD organizations, communications, team composition and equipment levels. A considerable array of skills and effective techniques has been developed by WHA to aid assessment including the investigation into criminal and terrorist capabilities.

We are also able to design and develop IEDD control structures including national reporting and coordination centres. WHA is experienced in the development and introduction of IEDD technical procedures and regulations at national level.

Equipment scaling

There exists a considerable array of IEDD equipment available on the international market. Where possible, the equipment must match the threat. WHA possesses the experience to identify appropriate, proven and effective equipment. We also appreciate that due to financial constraints, this will not always be possible especially in developing nations and that improvised solutions may need to be identified and developed.

Vehicle borne IEDs

WHA possesses specialist capabilities in defeating the threat from vehicle borne IEDs - We are experienced in dealing with the threat posed from car and truck bombs and have exclusive access to proven, specialist IEDD equipment to deal with this threat.

Training and capacity building

IEDD training exercieEfficient and appropriate technical training is a cornerstone of effective response and pre-emptive counter IED operations. Training must be based upon the threat but tempered with resources available to IEDD team personnel. We are able to design, develop and execute training programmes tailored to the customers' requirements.
