In the context of small arms and light weapons, disarmament is the process of the separation of weapons and ammunition from demobilized military and paramilitary organizations, often in post-conflict situations. To be successful, this process involves several key elements which must managed concurrently. Disarmament projects should possess point-of-collection to destruction procedures to ensure safety and transparency to both donors and to those surrendering their weapons.

  • Logistics and tracking

Disarmament program supervision

Effective program management requires a developed methodology which promotes a safe system of work and that is transparent to donors. Safety in handling, movement, storage and destruction of weapons and ammunition is considered to be a fundamental project prerequisite.
